Palliative Care

Kimberley Rural Palliative Care Program

Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) has funded the Rural Palliative Care Project 2008 – 2010. The project has resourced 36 rural and remote general practice networks The project will provide sustainable models of rural palliative care service delivery that can be tailored to address the local needs of rural and remote communities throughout Australia. It will deliver access to quality, coordinated palliative care to most of rural Australia that urban dwellers take for granted.

With the implementation of the Rural Palliative Care Model in Western Australia and the appointment of a Regional Palliative Care Coordinator Ms Kerrie Cunningham for the Kimberley Region there is a strong likely hood that all facets of the project objectives can be maintained beyond the life of the RPCP project.   A strong collaborative process around the objectives has developed between WACHS, KAMCS and the Division with sustainability being considered within the framework of all three organisations.
