Mental Health

The Kimberley Division of General Practice (KDGP) Mental Health Program provides services to communities in the Kimberley Region.

The service has a focus on primary care of mental health issues, and the building of community capacity.

An integral part of our program is to provide support by regular visits, community consultation and the provision of peer support and resources for practitioners working in the community.

KDGP Mental Health Program is staffed by professionals who are qualified for work in mental health and psychological issues. Services can be delivered to individuals or to groups.

Interventions

Treatments include evidence-based interventions for a range of mental health illnesses including Anxiety and Mood Disorders. Focused psychological strategies are also offered for issues including the following:

  • Psycho-education.
  • Relaxation strategies
  • Skills training in problem solving, anger management, social skills and communication.
  • Stress management.

Who may refer

Where appropriate, we recommend that clients first consult their GP to facilitate a referral to our service.

Referrals from agencies are also considered.

Who do we refer on to other services

Acute psychological services are generally not provided by our program except as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. The service does not provide medico-legal or worker’s compensation reports. Clients may be referred on to specialist services available to them within the community if appropriate.
