KDGP

The Kimberley Division of General Practice (KDGP) was established as an incorporated association in October 1998. In July 2003, following a special general meeting, the Division became a company limited by guarantee and adopted a new constitution. The organisation has a board of eight directors including six general practitioners, a community representative and a non-medical primary care clinician. There are approximately fifty eight general practitioners (including GP registrars) in the region, ten in private practice, sixteen in Aboriginal health services, three Royal Flying Doctor Service and twenty eight hospital-based general practitioners.

  • MembershipThe Division will engage members and the community in developing Division strategy by marketing the Division to members and stakeholders in order to:
    • Deliver or provide access to CPD
    • Foster GP involvement in broader health system policy and program development
    • Determine and deliver (clinical) services or programs that improve primary care for the community
  • Community Services
    The Division will provide allied health and other clinical and non-clinical services in accordance with member and community needs, including:

    • Allied health services under MAHS funding and RHS funding
    • Health promotion
    • Service evaluation with community, stakeholder and member contribution.
  • Innovation and Development
    The Division will investigate new or innovative initiatives and programs that extend the Division’s relevance to community, members and other stakeholders; and contribution to improved health service delivery and outcomes in the region. These activities currently include, but are not limited to:

    • Improving chronic disease management in general practice and primary care
    • Promoting innovative use of the information management/information technology framework to overcome otherwise limited access and services
    • Robustly engaging with representatives from across the Kimberley community to inform the Division in its strategic direction and also increasing the community’s awareness and understanding of health service provision and empowerment of decision making for the region
    • Building capacity in targeted areas including
      • Immunisation storage and handling
      • Diabetes care
      • Care for people with significant mental illness
      • Utilising existing expertise from outside the region
      • Regional population health data management

Our Office is situated at unit 5, 20 Hamersley street in Broome.

There is parking at the front of the office off Hamersley Street.
